As much as I appreciate employers talking about diversity training and manager training, I believe it is our individual careers and we shouldn’t wait for our managers to take notice of us. I worked behind the HR door for over 10 years in Fortune 100 companies and over 12 years in fast-growth tech companies. I have participated in the discussions and been part of the decisions that shaped and guided your career. I know how your manager thinks. Schools don’t teach us how to interview for a job and when they do, the class usually isn’t taught by a professional recruiter. These classes are short and barely scratch the surface. Corporations don’t teach us how to be successful at our jobs. They don’t explain the politics of corporate life or how to set ourselves up for real opportunity. Most employees have the simple mindset, “work hard and you will be promoted.”
Your first tip: If you work hard, you are only dependable. You are still, very much dispensable. Those that know how to be proactive with their careers are the ones that are really getting shit done and are irreplaceable. This blog will teach you how to become one of them.

I have seen too many candidates fail in interviews without even realizing they were drowning. I have seen too many employees commit CLM’s (Career Limiting Moves) and have no idea what they did or didn’t do. Most managers and HR departments don’t have the professional balls to tell an employee what they did or didn’t do. Most managers and HR departments are too lazy to figure out how they can communicate these important messages without putting their risking their own careers. In a perfect world, I’d never have to sit through another painstaking interview again. Until then, I will continue to be HRNasty.
