The company Christmas tree AKA Ornament Hanger

Company Christmas tree breaks the rules

Just because I work in HR doesn’t mean I have to follow all the rules. I prefer guidelines and today’s post is a glimpse into how Johnny Law, the HR deputy tries to keep a light attitude in the office and still keep order.

Holidays should be fun, merry and filled with a lot of great memories. Unfortunately,

Inappropriate Halloween Costume

Not just Halloween costumes, but Inappropriate Halloween costumes are today’s topic. It is the middle of October, and some of us are thinking about costumes for the company Halloween costume contest. Remember, it is a Halloween costume contest. It is not an Inappropriate Halloween costume contest. In HR we don’t just worry about payroll budgets and sensitivity training. Oh no, my little innocents. If there are two holidays HR looks forward to,

Lessons from Hollywood

I love movies. Movies are an escape from my day-to-day. No one yells at me in the movie theater, no one wants a decision out of me and most of all, no one is complaining to me. The biggest decision I make is regular or extra butter on my popcorn and do I pee before the movie starts or can I hold it for the next 2 hours. #FirstWorldProblems for sure. I often assign employees homework in the form of movies.

Company Christmas party, mind your P’s and Qs

Giving a resume 5 seconds is a lot like Tinder

Reading Resumes in 5 seconds

I just delivered a presentation to a group of job seekers, and one issue that caused considerable concern in the room was that I look at resumes for an average of only 5 seconds.

Most people don’t understand 5 seconds, don’t like it, and downright resent it. I get it. Candidates pour their heart and soul into creating a resume,

It’s Thanksgiving; try to be thankful
An HR Thanksgiving

As I sit here on the eve of Thanksgiving, I wanted to share my HRNasty perspective on what I am thankful for during the Thanksgiving season. I am grateful that the unemployment rate in this country is lower today. I am thankful to have a job that I enjoy, and colleagues with whom I enjoy working.

Save the date for your spouse’s company holiday party!
Company Holiday Party

Company Holiday party this year? Most of us will attend our spouse’s company holiday party this Christmas season, whether we are being asked or dragged. (Yes, the HR guy called it Christmas)

If your significant other’s company is hosting a company holiday party, there are several key considerations to keep in mind. The following may sound basic, but I see a spouse ruin a great employee’s reputation yearly.
